The flat OBD-2 connector (according to SAE J1962 / ISO 15031-3 standard with leading mass on the pins 4 and 5) protrudes only about 1cm out of the OBD socket in the car. Use is therefore also possible in environments where other extensions or plugs are bad to use and possibly prevent the closing of an existing cover. The cable is intended for installation in the vehicle, not for use in the workshop.
